Youth soccer referees train through extreme summer heat in Overland Park

A 14-year-old spent an afternoon in Overland Park training as a youth soccer referee, completing a four-hour assignment in 100-plus degree heat and humidity. The experience was part of a day that the family shared after dropping off parents at MCI before traveling back to Massachusetts.

The message behind the training is a reminder to recognize young officials who are learning the rules and practicing their sportsmanship—often in demanding conditions—to help youth sports games run smoothly.
