Prairie Village raises England flag at City Hall for World Cup semifinal push

Prairie Village made its support for England visible at City Hall this week by raising the St. George’s Cross outside the building as the team heads toward the World Cup semifinal in Atlanta. KMBC 9 reports the city posted that the display is meant to recognize Team England’s run to the FIFA World Cup semifinals and to offer good luck for the next match.

England has been treating Prairie Village as its temporary hometown during the tournament. Players stayed at the Inn at Meadowbrook and trained nearby at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri while progressing to the final four. England advanced to the semifinal after a 2-1 win over Norway in extra time.

With England facing defending champion Argentina, the semifinal also connects to the broader Kansas City area. Argentina’s World Cup preparations included training in Kansas City, Kansas, and the team also stayed in Kansas City, Missouri. England’s next match is scheduled for Wednesday, and the semifinal will ensure that one of Kansas City’s adopted teams will play for the World Cup championship.
