Kansas Beef Council leaders and producer representatives reviewed nine contractor organizations’ authorization requests seeking beef checkoff funding aimed at improving beef demand through research, education and promotion. The work was evaluated during committee meetings held as part of the Cattle Industry Summer Business Meeting, where committee members hear contractor proposals, ask questions, and score and comment on the proposed activities, with the results used to shape how checkoff dollars are spent.
People serving on the Kansas Beef Council Executive Committee for the review included Ty Breeden of Quinter, Andy Larson of Randolph, Matt Grabbe of Hays, Jamie Lindamood of Eureka, Heather Donley of Ellsworth, Marisa Kleysteuber of Garden City, Randall Debler of Alma, Josh Mueller of Halstead, Evan Lesser of Palco, Philip Weltmer of Smith Center, Stacy McClintock of Seneca, Larry Kendig of Osborne, and co-chairs and members across the Research, Consumer Information, Industry Information, International Marketing, and Promotion committees, as outlined in the meeting materials.
The Beef Promotion Operating Committee—comprised of CBB and Federation members—will meet in September to make the final decision on checkoff funding for next year’s contractor authorizations. If approved, the funds will be dispersed through the Cattlemen’s Beef Board to contractors on a cost-recovery basis, with payment tied to completion of the demand-building work, according to NewsRadio 1150 KSAL.
