Independence Day schedule changes for Salina transit and city services

Independence Day will disrupt some essential services in the Salina area, including local public transportation and several city-run facilities. Salina public transportation will not operate on Friday, July 3, or Saturday, July 4.

A bus, recycling area, and sanitation truck staged to suggest holiday service shutdowns in a city setting.

OCCK, which operates the services, says transportation including Paratransit, Salina CityGo, 81 Connection, GoAbilene, GoConcordia, KanConnect, and OCCK OnDemand will be closed those dates. Regular operations are set to resume on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Salina General Services Offices and the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will also be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The Salina Drive-Thru Recycling Center will be closed Saturday, July 4. Sanitation services, however, will continue with regular trash routes on Friday, July 3 with no interruptions.

The Salina Municipal Solid Waste Landfill will be open on July 3, but will close on Saturday, July 4, with regular services resuming Monday, July 6. General Services offices and facilities will reopen for normal hours Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on July 6, per the schedule described by NewsRadio 1150 KSAL.
