Salina Area Technical College takes over historic Otis Avenue campus from Saint Francis Ministries

Ownership of the Saint Francis Ministries Otis Avenue Campus was officially transferred to Salina Area Technical College during a signing ceremony in North Salina, with officials and community members gathering Friday morning for the change.

Founded in 1887, the campus previously housed St. John’s Military School. Saint Francis assumed stewardship after the school closed in 2019. Saint Francis Ministries will remain in Salina, relocating its offices to Ohio Street while continuing to maintain its large campus west of Salina.

Salina Area Technical College says the second campus will help it expand opportunities for its students, including offering housing for the first time. The agreement also keeps the museum that houses the history of St. John’s Military School on campus for alumni and families, and it’s described as supporting St. Francis’ efforts to help more children heal and potentially connect them to courses at the technical college. The campus changes for Salina Tech are not expected to be evident until the 2028-29 school year.
