Salina business and non-profit leaders say a January letter they sent to City Commissioners during the search for a new city manager has been described in a way they insist does not match their intent. In a follow-up statement published by NewsRadio 1150 KSAL, the group says the letter was not meant to oppose the selection of Jacob Wood, and that the City Commission’s choice should be respected.
The leaders say their original request focused on considering fresh perspectives, new ideas, and specific leadership qualities for the city manager role, applying those expectations to all final candidates, whether internal or external. They add that once the Commission selected Wood, they support him in his position and appreciate the work required of City leadership, the Commission, and city employees.
While pledging support, the group also emphasizes that residents should continue asking questions and raising concerns—especially on service and city issues that have caused inconvenience for residents, including water-service concerns, severe weather impacts, animal shelter issues, and legal disputes. They call for respectful, responsible community problem-solving, clearer communication and accountability, and a distinction between verified information and speculation.
They conclude by reiterating that they want progress through accurate information, patience, accountability, and cooperation—not personal attacks or division.
