Salina City Commissioners will consider a water relief pilot program during their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, following earlier discussion of ongoing water quality concerns affecting portions of the city’s water distribution system. The plan being developed would provide monetary relief tied to certain charges on monthly billing statements.
According to the agenda details, the policy aims to offer relief for the Water Base Charge, Water Usage Charge, and State Water Fee. Residents determined to qualify would be eligible for a retroactive rebate of covered water charges back to January 1, 2026, along with temporary rate relief while testing and operational review determine whether conditions have improved. Separately, the city has plans to let bids for replacement of water mains on Dover Street, 10th Street, 11th Street, and Larson Avenue in late August, with a targeted award to a contractor as quickly as practical in the fall of 2026.
The meeting will also include two executive sessions. One executive session will be for discussing the potential acquisition of specific real estate, and the second will involve special legal counsel to address legal considerations related to the Cozy Inn vs. City of Salina case.
