Salina launches 250th-birthday July festivities with Play Day in the Park and SkyFire fireworks

Salina kicked off the nation’s 250th birthday on Friday with its annual Play Day in the Park / Old Fashioned 4th of July. Families gathered for traditional holiday treats, including watermelon and hot dogs, while children took part in games and played in bubble foam.

The evening wrapped up with the Salina Municipal Band performing a selection of patriotic favorites. The celebration then shifted to Saturday at the Berkley Family Recreation Area for the Salina SkyFire fireworks spectacular, a free event supported by JRI Hospitality and the City of Salina along with other local partners.

Free parking is available in Berkley Family Recreation Area parking lots south of the fireworks launch area, with gates opening at 7:00. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10:00 and will run for about 20 minutes, choreographed to a patriotic music montage. The live broadcast will include a segment from KSAL News Director Todd Pittenger, and the show is set to start with a greeting from Salina Mayor Mike Hoppock.
