SB 531 would bar large data centers in drought-declared Kansas counties

According to the Kansas Legislature’s bill record for SB 531, the measure addresses the siting and development of large load data centers.

The bill would prohibit the installation, placement, construction, or operation of any new large load data center in any county that has had a drought emergency declared for that county under the Kansas emergency management act within the preceding three years.

What the bill changes

  • It would amend K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 19-101a.
  • It would repeal the existing section currently in that law.
