A brief but strong EF-2 tornado struck just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday in rural Sedgwick County, killing one man when the tornado destroyed his home near 125th and I-135. Fox Kansas reports that Sedgwick County dispatch confirmed the death after the tornado caused the house to be blown off its foundation.

The 911 call came after 2:15 a.m. from a lineman working in the area on a power outage call, according to the report. Sedgwick County EMS located a man in the debris and pronounced him dead on scene.

The National Weather Service estimated the tornado lasted about two minutes. The report also says there was no active tornado warning when it hit, even though a severe weather warning had been in effect for 45 minutes prior; the window was described as too brief for a tornado warning to be issued or for outdoor sirens to sound.

Fox Kansas notes that the meteorologist said it is not possible to know whether sirens or warning would have prevented harm for someone inside during the event.
