Governor Laura Kelly appointed Ashlyn Yarnell of Shawnee to a judgeship position in the 10th Judicial District on Thursday, July 23, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge David W. Hauber. The appointment supports continued leadership in the district court as the court system moves forward with a new judge.
Yarnell is a non-equity partner at Nelson & Yarnell and has served as Pro Tem in the 10th Judicial District. She is currently President-Elect for the Johnson County Bar Association, and she also volunteers as an investigator with the Johnson County Ethics and Grievance Committee. Her community involvement includes membership in the Johnson County Family Law Inn of Court and the Johnson County Bar Foundation.
The 10th Judicial District district court judges are appointed by the governor and chosen from nominees selected by a district nominating commission. Judges from nominating commission districts face retention elections every four years. The other nominees selected by the district nominating commission were John McEntee and Curtis Sample, per the Sabetha Herald.
