Storm-hit businesses urged to document losses for potential federal disaster loan request

Businesses and private nonprofits affected by a recent storm are being encouraged to complete an Economic Injury Worksheet to document disaster-related losses. The information collected would help the State of Kansas support a request to the U.S. Small Business Administration for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration.

A storm-impacted business owner documents economic losses on a form while storm clouds clear in the background.

Filling out the worksheet does not obligate a business to apply for or accept a loan. Instead, it helps local and state officials determine the level of business impact in the community. Businesses should submit the form if they experienced economic losses tied to the disaster, including reduced revenue, lost business, operational disruptions, physical damage, inventory loss, equipment damage, staffing changes, or other financial impacts.

The worksheet requests basic business information, estimated revenue for the affected period and revenue for the same period last year, any insurance received or expected, staffing levels before and after the disaster, and a brief explanation of how the storm affected the business. Forms should be completed as soon as possible and returned to publiccommunications@salinecountyks.gov.
