Governor opens new single office for early childhood services in Kansas

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced she has met her top priority by opening the Kansas Office of Early Childhood, ahead of the end of her term, during a celebration Wednesday. The new office is designed to centralize state early childhood work into one structure.

Officials say the Kansas Office of Early Childhood consolidates programs and staff from multiple parts of state government, including the health and environment department; the children and families department; and the education department. It also brings together functions from the Kansas Children’s Cabinet to create a single office focused on early childhood.

The Kansas Reflector reports that the reorganization aims to streamline how early childhood programs and personnel are organized across those agencies.
