Kansas health and wildlife officials have expanded a harmful algal bloom alert list, raising public health concerns about blue-green algae as hot summer conditions persist. The advisory was issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) on July 24, and additional lakes were added to the alert list on Friday, according to KSNT 27 News.
In certain conditions, blue-green algae can grow rapidly and form blooms that may create health risks. The update is meant to help Kansans stay aware of changing lake conditions and take appropriate precautions when visiting affected waters.
