KDOT and Highway Patrol roll out new statewide crash reporting system

Kansas is launching a new statewide system to report crashes, with the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol announcing the start of the Kansas Crash Data System (KCDS). KSNT 27 News reports the change was announced in a July 16 press release.

The new KCDS is intended to provide a centralized way to handle crash reporting statewide, bringing together the work of state troopers and transportation officials under one system. As the statewide rollout begins, the focus is on improving how crash information is captured and managed across Kansas.

For drivers and roadway users, the practical takeaway is that crash reporting operations for incidents on Kansas roads are moving to a new statewide process under KDOT and KHP. More information about how agencies will use the system may become available as the rollout progresses.
