Laura Kelly denies clemency request for inmate sentenced to death

Gov. Laura Kelly denied clemency for an 82-year-old Kansas prison inmate serving a death sentence, according to a Kansas Reflector brief.

A quiet scene with a gavel and sealed legal documents in front of a statehouse-like building silhouette at dusk.

Kelly rejected the clemency request of John Robinson, who was convicted of killing eight women from the mid 1980s until he was arrested in 2000. The governor said Robinson did not meet the criteria for clemency.

The decision means the death sentence remains in place following the governor’s denial.
