Sunflower “wildlife plot” in the Topeka area becomes a favorite weekend stop

North of Topeka, Todd and Marilyn Workman have spent the past two years growing a backyard sunflower field that’s now drawing visitors from across Kansas, KSNT 27 News reports. What began as a wildlife-support project has grown into a popular place for people who want to enjoy the state flower in bloom.

The couple originally approached the planting as another food plot for wildlife. Over time, their sunflowers turned their property into a destination for community members and travelers looking for an outdoor, seasonal experience without leaving the region.

With its roots in habitat support and its payoff in shared public enjoyment, the Workmans’ effort reflects a distinctly local way to bring nature to the neighborhood—one sunflower at a time—while giving Kansans a simple reason to get outside and explore what’s nearby.
