Local advocates helped the City of Topeka complete its 2026 summer Point in Time Homeless Count on Wednesday, an effort aimed at documenting homelessness in the community.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires communities to conduct one count each year to receive funding for homelessness-related programs. Topeka performs both a winter and a summer Point in Time Homeless Count.
The Wednesday count adds to that year-round reporting structure used for eligibility for HUD program funding.
