Wichita heart survivor Ella Morrissey brings Make-A-Wish comfort to pediatric patients

After overcoming a life-threatening heart condition, Ella Morrissey spent Tuesday delivering comfort and encouragement to pediatric patients at Wesley Children’s Hospital in Wichita. She partnered with Make-A-Wish for the visit, aiming to bring uplifting moments to kids facing medical challenges.

Morrissey brought Build-A-Bear stuffed animals, along with copies of her children’s book, Ella’s New Beat, during the afternoon visit. Several children received the surprise gifts and had the chance to meet Morrissey.

Her own experience shaped the message she shared. Morrissey was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at age 10, and when she was 17 her health rapidly worsened. Now, she is using what she learned through recovery to support other young patients.

FOX Kansas reports that one patient, Ava Thibodeau, said meeting Morrissey was especially meaningful because she could relate to someone who faced similar challenges and came out stronger on the other side.
